Georg Szalai, the Hollywood Reporter's New York bureau chief, interviewed Josh Brooks, vicepresident marketing and content, and Jordan Ellner , marketing manager of comedy, at the Just for Laughs comedy festival. I was expecting question that will reveal some of the plans that MySpace has regarding the future projects, but to my surprise everything evolved around the main issue of comedy. Of course the marketing managers talked very nice about the commitment of MySpace to comedy and how entertainment is at the base of the site and that they have 40,000 registered comedians according to Jordan Ellner, while Brooks states they are heading to electronic commercialise CDs, T-Shirts and other stuff, although they are not yet there. Through festivals, video premieres and Secret Standup community that is very popular, they satisfy the users need of comedy."Tommy Johnigan and Geoff Keith are the kind of guys that are off-the-cuff funny guys who speak our language very well" says Brooks in confessing who he would use to entertain the MySpace audience. This makes me wonder if he will use them in the new project regarding IPTV. Still keeping us in the dark, the company thought to be on the edge of losing its users still stirs water.
